An unidentified man is under arrest after allegedly firing three shots into the ground at Roosevelt High School when he became upset over a landscaping issue, Nassau County Police said.
The incident took place around 9 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the school at 1 Wagner Ave., when the man had words with the landscapers and then fired the three shots into the ground, police said.
The high school and Roosevelt Middle School were immediately put on lockdown.
A notice on the Nassau County School District website says: "The High School and Middle School are on lockout due to an incident in the area. Everyone is safe and secure. Please do not approach the surrounding areas. Police have the area secure."
The man then went to his home which is beside the school where he reportedly barricaded himself until the police Special Operations Unit arrived and he surrendered without incident.
School is not in session, but teachers and support staff were inside the building along with about 100 football, soccer and track athletes, officials said.
No one was injured during the incident.
The man is under arrest and is being charged.
